4 stars It's a MUST for those who love Alan Parsons Project

Yeah, I have owned the cassette version of this album since 1983 and I rarely played this because during that period I was really mad with a new band that brought prog flag where other bands play new wave or pop music: Marillion. I did not have time really to enjoy other albums than those produced by Marillion: Script for a Jester's Tear (1983), Fugazi (1984), Misplaced Childhood (1985) and Clutching at Straws (1987). That was second golden period of prog music for me becase I still could get the nuances of symphonic prog with modern approach and people called it later as neo progressive sub genre. Practically I paid little attention to anything but prog music and I did not consider the music of The Alan Parsons Project was progressive - it's to me more like a pop music with some rock elements. I bought some albums plus this orchestra version. As recently I played my old cassettes collection - thanks God they are all in excellent condition with very good sounds - I finally played this cassette of Andrew Powell again.

At first spin I was impressed with the grandiose orchestration presented by this tribute album especially on the way all tracks are replayed excellently by Andrew Powell and his band mates backed with great orchestra. The opening track "Lucifer/ Mammagamma" (5:00) sets the overall tone of the album. I am impressed with the arrangement especially when it's supported with great sonic production which is really top notch. It flows nicely to the mellow "Time" (5:06) using cello as melody maker throughout the track. I am particularly happy listening to "I Robot Suite" (3:38) where I can find psychedelic nature of the music, continued beautifully with "Damned If I Do" (3:38) and also "Eye In The Sky" (4:25). My all-time favorite "Old And Wise" (5:02) is played wonderfully by Andrew Powell and his orchestra team.

Overall, I find this album of tribute to The Best of The Alan Parsons Project is very interesting - wonderfully crafted by Andrew Powell. Not just the music is great, the sound production is really top notch so that this is an excellent album to test the sound systemm. For those who love classical music and The Alan Parsons Project, I think this is a MUST have. Keep on proggin' ...!

Peace on earth and mercy mild - GW
