Releases information

The packaging is bare-bones and consists of a slim-line jewel case and a single page insert that contains the CD Title and Track Listing only.

These recordings were made from the mixing board at CalProg. The project is called "The Authorized Bootleg" because the sound quality is closer to a bootleg than to a multi-track pro live recording. The bands have graciously authorized the use of their performances for CalProg fundraising purposes. We advise you to listen to the samples on the website before making a purchase. All proceeds go to CalProg. This is a limited offer. Can only be purchased on the Calppog website WWW.Calprog.com

3 stars Calprog 2005 official bootleg continues in the series featuring 4 of the 5 bands that performed in the second show in 2005 (The Flower Kings chose not to donate any material). Like the 2004 this CD was recorded right off the soundboards.

We get 5 songs from the opening act Spiraling. While Spiraling original material is prog-related at best they also threw in a totally surprising but great version of Soundchaser by Yes. Bubblemath donated 4 songs form their quirky (Zappa and GG come to mind) brand of prog. To throw everyone off they decided to play the Knife by Genesis. Tiles donated two of their original Rush like Prog Metal songs, Facing Failure and Modification as did IZZ with their symphonic I Move and Assurance. Too bad there wasn't room for their covers that day IZZ did Close to the Edge and Tiles The Overture and The Priests of the Temple of Sryinx from 2112.

Again the performances are brilliant and the sound is stellar on these CD's. Jim Harrell the promoter of Calprog takes great pride in the sound produced at his festival and these bootleg series CD's show why. Years 2004 and 2005 are a little strange because everything is right off the board but it is still very clear. You can only get these CDs from Calprogs Web site WWW.Calprog.com and there is a generous audio sample of each CD to listen too.
