4 stars 'Roundabout' - Yes (Single)

Far and away, it's easy to agree that the song 'Roundabout' is Yes' best known track. Filled to the brim with skilled playing, complex arrangements and topped off with catchy melodies and playful hooks, it was simply an example of what happens when Prog goes right for the common crowd. It definitely did not have the song structure of a commercially successful song, but suceed it did, and against the odds, Yes had a hit with an uncompromising, artistic, and progressive song.

It's safe to say most people who have listened to Yes before have heard 'Roundabout' before; it was probably most people's introduction to the band. Keeping this in mind, for someone who's never heard it, this automatically becomes five stars; as 'Roundbout' is essential listening, not just for prog music listeners but listeners in general. Put simply, this is basically Yes' 'Stairway To Heaven' or 'Bohemian Rhapsody,' and it certainly ranks up there with those songs as well.

The second song here was also a hit from a while before 'Roundabout' and while the main hook is a tad annoying and over-peppy, it's a good song with the same technical superiority one would normally expect from this band.

If you haven't heard these songs and you see this, pick it up. Other wise, it still stands as being a cool collectors item and a great sample of a landmark band.
