SPECIAL COLLABORATOR
4 stars A colourful psychedelic progressive rock.

EL PÁRAMO, including two Adrift (already in Progarchives Progressive Metal list) members, have come from Spain, independent of a Spanish stoner rock outfit Sou Edipo. On stage or on this album, they have played psychedelic progressive rock different from Sou Edipo or Adrift ... we can find this difference only in the first track "Varicela", starting with pure Space Rock like Hawkwind or their followers and changing their style into slow stoner or ethnic one. We can say their friends CUZO are a purely stoner progressive rock band, but EL PÁRAMO's music attitude can frequently be altered among psychedelic / stoner / ethnic rock turfs just like kaleidoscopic glimmers. Basically their sounds are heavy and deeply unrefined, not loud nor scattered - especially a free guitar solo can be exploded over exaggerated drumming and deep, deep bass sounds. Well let me say that their musical core is just the phantasmagoria of Santi's drums ... a rough call though. - yea the two guitarist gangsters (Macón and Jorge) are playing in Adrift, a heavily metallic progressive band, as you know. However, Santi cannot be defeated nor beaten by them in playing. Rather, his flexibility in drumming, e.g. in "Sirope De Arena", can support Macón and Jorge's fuzzy, heavy, speedy guitar solos we can say?

We've found another Spanish brilliant star ... so glad to meet EL PÁRAMO.
