3 stars Covers!

Tori's maxi-single for "Crucify" sported some interesting covers as bonuses to the main track. "Crucify" was the lead-off track from her debut "Little Earthquakes." It's far from the best track on the album but lyrically it draws a line from the very beginning. Tori puts us on notice early that she has much to say and starts so colorfully with "got enough guilt to start my own religion." She adds some nice vocal backings to her main lines which bring a richness to an otherwise modest track. She includes three covers here from the Stones, Nirvana, and Zeppelin respectively. I've never been a big fan of her covers, always preferring to hear her own work over the interpretations of others, but these are somewhat unique. Her covers here are pretty laid back piano versions of the songs, Zeppelin's "Thank You" probably being the best. I think the interesting range of covers makes this single a pretty good value with perhaps some worth beyond her hard core fanbase, thus three stars for this one.
