3 stars Rudess Morgenstein Project - as the name implies is a project made by two famous musicians in last almost 40 yesrs, the excellent drumer Rod Morgenstein from Dixie Dregs fame and also part of Platypus or Winger and master of keybords Jordan Rudess who at the time of this album issued was not part of DT yet. The one and only album released by them is this self titled album from 1997 at Domo records. This is an instrumental afair, no guitars only drums and keybords. Most of the time intresting, something between progressive electronic and jazz rock, both play at full capacity, the keybords runs all over, from mellow sections to more uptempo passages, the druming is awesome, complicated chops, sometimes quite original. An overlooked album in prog circles, gone under the radar, even after this release Rudess will join DT and become a far more known then before DT. All pieces are more then ok, no groundbreaking arrangements, but pleasent most of the time. Don't expect some DT music here, progressive/jazz electronic is all about. A nice one 3 stars almost 3.5 in parts.
