RISKY BUSINESS (OST)

I'm not sure of why this album is inserted in the TD discography as only half of the tracks are performed by the German band. It's like placing "When The Wind Blows" in Roger Waters discography and that album is under "Various Artists" on PA.

Said so, I will omit reviewing the non-TD stuff that includes Muddy Waters, Bob Seger and Jeff Beck, but also Phil Collins (In The Air Tonight) and Prince.

"The Dream Is Always The Same" is a classic TD electronic of the post-pink period, like a short reprise of Phaedra or Ricochet. Three good minutes of electronic.

"No Future" is more 80s stuff, but quite good. Unfortunately it fades out very soon for a TD track so it leaves a sense of incompleteness.

"Guido The Killer Pimp" starts similar to Camel's "Elke" for the first two minutes, then electronic drums and guitar make it a rock base. The final guitar solo reminds me a song of Peter Bardens from Seen One Earth. I think it's just a coincidence that the two parts of this song make me think to them.

"Lana" is unusual for TD. It's a rhythmic track that sounds very 80s. A 4/4 in Alan Parsons or Jarre's style but with an excellent guitar performance from Edgar Froese. Of course this is a soundtrack and this track fades out on the guitar solo. The worst possible production's choice.

"Love On A Train" is the last TD track and again it's very similar in the sounds, chords and tempo to Peter Bardens' "The Stargate". Please consider that Bardens released Seen One Earth four years AFTER this OST.

So what to say? I haven't seen the movie so I don't know how much the music fits into it. The five tracks are quite good even if I hate fades out. Tangerine Dream have released so many good albums that this one is surely non-essential (and non totally TD, too). I think that buying an album for just 20 minutes of "truncated" good tracks it's not worth the expense, so unless you are fans of the other authors in the album this is just a collector's item.
