PROG REVIEWER
3 stars 'Lease Of Life' - Angra (Single)

When listening to Angra's 2010 full length album 'Aqua' a few months ago, there were two tracks that really stood out to me. the first was 'Arising Thunder,' which had convinced me to check out the album in the first place. The second was actually this track, 'Lease Of Life,' which I am not too surprised to see as the second single for the album. While 'Aqua' did not impress me quite as much as 'Arising Thunder' lend me to hope for, these two tracks (among a few others, of course) did make the album a pretty enjoyable listen.

'Lease Of Life' is distinguished from the other, power metal spectacles on 'Aqua' for the fact that beyond anything else, it is a power ballad. Driven by a catchy piano lick that works it's way to incorporate some warm, lower register vocals, the track begins as a very mellow piece of music. However, things pick up energy and intensity with a guitar solo after the first round of Edu Falaschi's vocal work. 'Lease Of Life' eventually finds a very grandiose finish by building up into an epic climax with guitar work and lush vocal harmonies that are vaguely reminiscent of glam rockers Queen.

As a single release (especially one I am hearing about after the release of 'Aqua'), there isn't much here to look into, besides some potentially suggestive artwork. Barring that, 'Lease Of Life' is a very strong track from this Brazilian power metal act.
