2 stars Ital-pop on its way to something more

Roberto Carlotto, aka Hunka Munka, preceded his decent 1972 RPI album with this single a year prior. While the singles are fairly light fare in an Italian pop style, with a bit of the 60s vibe left over, you can hear where Carlotto would be heading soon. There is a nice command blending the keyboards and orchestration present with some acoustic guitar and a romantic Italian vocal. The moods are upbeat and a bit overplayed in that dramatic love ballad way. Carlotto has a decent range although when he pushes it the strain may sound a bit shrill to you. He gets a bit of help in spots via some female background vocals. Both tracks are far from necessary RPI but they are not bad at all and should appeal to RPI fans who like song based Italian pop, which can often be surprisingly good. Something to check out but don't spend a fortune hunting down the vinyl unless you are hard core.
