4 stars Drenched in dreadful noise milk.

SEMOOL were a very obscure (and maybe short-lived) French "stealthy" experimental project, that released only one album Essais in 1971. A very strange and mysteriously amazing one I always feel ... the recording condition is very weird (terribly patchy and cracked) and some can feel this be neither rock nor music, but let me say, they played "rock" nobody could have thought of. Rock is rebellion. Definitely they played rock.

Their noisy stuffs can be very close to another Krautrock / experimental project BLUMEN DES EXOTISCHEN EISES, especially upon a noisy jam session and a weird recording condition, and adventurous spirits. This album can be split into eleven pieces, and each of those has a mysterious personality. From the first track "Essai 1", a mixture of noise, clean guitar sounds, glittery tone dusts, and chill fuzz can spring out aggressively. Strange chorus upon the tape recorder into reverse with messy condition, randomized and improvised string section play, Oriental percussive dance tunes (featuring keen flute, percussion, unrealisable noise kicks) over crazy salty dead sea, and smooth piano solos ... various sound elements can be jammed into the album. However, each track can be understood not as a song but a piece of loose improvisational session. Weird.

Not only Gérard TERRONÉS, the founder of Futura Records, but also Mellow Records that re-released their bizarre stuff ... you all are great, good job dude!
