3 stars "The Asthenic Ascension" is the 4th full-length studio album by French black metal act Reverence. The album was released through Candlelight Records in April 2012.

The music on "The Asthenic Ascension" is semi-progressive black metal. The vocals vary between raspy black metal type vocals and various clean vocal styles. The tracks can both be harsh, more epic and at times also dissonant. The album is well produced and the musicianship is strong. The songwriting is generally on a good level, but despite their at times "experimental" nature, Reverence arenīt an act that stand out too much from the crowd. A convincing delivery, some good compositional ideas and a powerful sound production can take you far though, and overall "The Asthenic Ascension" is certainly a quality release. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
