Review by Gerinski
3 stars This is a stripped down version of a VHS / laser disc video called Steve Hackett Live, recorded in Nottingham Central TV Studios in October 1990, which apparently was not an offical release since it's not listed in Hackett's official website. There is another DVD version of the same concert called Horizons which I do not have but apparently does not contain the whole concert either (it seems it did in the VHS version), but with both Horizons and this one together you get nearly the whole original VHS concert (except for the track Wonderpatch). It is also the concert from which several tracks appear in the live album Time Lapse.

The band consists of Hackett, his brother John on flute, guitar and Moog Taurus pedals, Julian Colbeck on keyboards, Ian Ellis on bass and backing vocals and Pendragon's Fudge Smith on drums, all of them more than proficient enough with their instruments.

This was recorded in 1990 as their looks confirm, but make no mistake, these guys can play prog of the highest level.

It starts with Camino Royale from Highly Strung, Please Don't Touch from the eponimous album and Everyday from Spectral Mornings, all of them played wonderfully, followed by the first Genesis flashback with a great In That Quiet Earth from the Wind And Wuthering album.

Then we have Depth Charge which was not on any previous studio album but was included in the live Time Lapse, and two tracks which would feature in Guitar Noir, In The Heart Of The City and Theatre Of Sleep, sandwiching the classic Foxtrot's Horizons.

The band then delivers a nearly 4 minute Jazz Jam and ends with Clocks from Spectral Mornings in which John Hackett plays the Taurus pedals with his hands.

A great DVD but knowing that the original VHS Steve Hackett Live had the missing stuff it feels short, if you can get the original "Steve Hackett Live" VHS or at least the "Horizons" version go for them!
