4 stars BACKNEE HORN is an experimental outfit from Israel which offers some really challenging stuff, you bet! This atmospheric psychedelic/kraut debut is their most accessible output I'm aware of. Drummer Rudi J. seems to have things in hand when it comes to this crew. Getting close to German act Instant Drone Factory his vocal contributions are simply exceptional, very very special. And yes, this overall sounds like reflecting a time travel, like recorded for a sci-fi movie somehow, featuring a story taking place 30 years further or so. What means I'm writing about something unusual for my ears, though certainly appealing. And the best thing about this ... now we can be sure, the beloved Mellotron makes it, definitely will survive!

The songs are strung together like pearls to a chain, the instrumental interaction is priceless. Drums and bass are often serving a decent groove like on Outleting Storming Particles or Multiple Streaming Encounter, but this is also comprised of meandering hallucinated sections pointing to the strong avantgarde approach which they develop with their following albums. Hereby they are weaving a thrilling flow, no way to guess what will follow next. I'm inclined to say that this is fully composed, but who knows? On Far Away But Close the guitar playing reminds me of John Martyn, who often enough has surprised as a visionary when it comes to his live performances.

Where the following band albums are way too strange according to my taste, this one knocks my socks off really, an outstanding band outing. Very unique - never heard something like that before. The restrained backing mellotron emphasizes the general impression - here we have a wonderful melancholic album, a beauty consisting of matured songs recorded by skilled musicians - 4.5 stars.
