4 stars Poetic injustice

Steve Roach self discovered, UNCOMPROMISED, musical idiom is well known for its versatility and elasticity. His own quest has crossed many musical transmutations but his own imprint is also well stamped in all his releases.

An inherent sense of musical poetry could well describe this "Sigh of Ages", 2010.

Hard task to descipher this highly spiritual emotions produced by such an extraordinary musical composition display, that moves along in all its 6 tracks.

Therefore allow me to explain why this work rates so high in my Steve Roach collection. For starters Mr. Roach is one of the few prog musicians, who is able to achieve sweetness without never, NEVER, becoming cheesy, really not by chance. His ability relies on contrasts which counterpoint the emotional parts with the cerebral ones, thus intelligent music has no battle with heartfelt one.

Next to that, his keen sense for symphonic but unpretentious greatness, allows him to play in his own field of action, giving him the unique freedom to twist and turn it as he wishes, without pretending to sound like no one else.

His sharp and wide musical palette between dark and bright electronic colors, has a natural tendency to explore deeper depths which balance usually towards the darker environments, tainted with bright and scarce shades of lights, without becoming tortuous or religious like, opposite to that his music never lets go its down to earth human value but also its deeper hopes and fears and of course its COSMIC progressive electronic spirit.

**** 4.5 PA stars.
