4 stars Another fantastic post-punksy funky jazz avantgarde stuff ... namely seamless or themeless. AUKTYON (АукцЫон) hailing from Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation are a veteran combo founded in late 1970s. It's said they have been thought as an alternative rock band indeed, but we progressive rock fans might hear another sound appearance of theirs via this album titled 'Devushki Poyut (Girls Sing)' released in 2007 and much appreciated in United States during their US tour in 2008.

Their soundscape produced with various instruments or experimental sound methods reminds the audience of independent rock, funk, jazz, folk, punk, ambient, avantgarde, or Oriental traditional. Such a diverse mixture, hotchpotch rock sounds more innovative. In the third track 'Gdat' we can hear something like Canterbury or acid folk. 'Slova' sounds ethnicity meets flamenco really. The first shot 'Profukal' or 7th 'Debil' is more of punk and of alternative. 'Dolgi' is quite eccentric but rhythmically danceable. On the other hand, the melody lines in 'Vozle Menya' should be called as psychedelic avantgarde ambient, let me say. The last titled one is a bluesy rock filled with coolness and darkness.

Why not such a diversity around the whole album called as experimental? You definitely Russian stars.
