3 stars "Hated by Matter Itself" is the second demo release by UK, London based black metal act Skaldic Curse. The demo was independently released on the CD format in 2002. Itīs the successor to the 2001 "Funereal Eclipse" demo, which was recorded not long after the bandīs formation.

Listening to "Hated by Matter Itself" it immediately becomes apparent that Skaldic Curse has matured fast as songwriters and musicians. The material is more adventurous type of black metal (even progressive at times) than what was heard on the first demo, and the sound quality has also been upgraded to a more heavy and dark sound, where you can hear all details. The snarling blackened vocals are filled with hate and quite convincing.

Featuring three tracks Skaldic Curse have the time and quantity to show what they are made of, and "Hated by Matter Itself" is a good quality demo. A 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
