2 stars "I know it sounds a trifle odd to those who've never had a dog"

With these two Klaatu albums being so short, they fit easily onto a single CD with room to spare. The repackaging is however extremely shoddy. There are no bonus tracks on offer, no sleeve notes to speak of, and nothing in the way of historical information about either the band or the albums.

Neither of the two albums included here represent anything like Klaatu's best output. All we have is average quality pop rock, plain and simple. The prog tendencies which appeared on their first albums are ruthlessly suppressed on these two albums, leaving pop songs ranging from the palatable to the distinctly uninspired.

Ironically, the last track is probably the most memorable, being a brief acoustic eulogy to a departed dog.

The frustrating thing is that this two on one package appears to be the most widely available example of the work of Klaatu. Anyone wishing to discover what all the fuss was about should give this collection a wide berth and seek out the band's second album "Hope".
