3 stars Part II comprises line-up change on lead vocalist which is now by Alan Reed while other musicians are intact as the first part. "Without a doubt the most important development between this and the River Sessions 1 recording was the parting ways between Pallas and Euan Lawson. The search was then on to find the right person to take on the position of frontman for a re-born band. No particular hard and fast rules were adopted and a wide-ranging advert was placed in Melody Maker" [excerpts from CD sleeve notes].

This session was recorded 16/05/85, approx two years after the first session. "Shock Treatment" starts with percussion / drum work followed with the stream of upbeat music with softer voice of Pallas new vocalist Alan Reed. The song moves dynamically with pulsating keyboard sounds and stunning guitar solo. After the first track Alan starts to communicate with the crowd in Glasgow backed with acoustic guitar fills. "Crown of Thorns" is becoming softer with Alan Reed on vocals but it does not damage the overall song. Alan can adapt well with the soul of the song. "Imagination" was a song that would be featured on the band's next album coming out on September and it's performed excellently by the band. My favorite "Sanctuary" is also featured here.

As for comparison purpose, I'd prefer the first session with Euan Lawson as lead vocalist than this session 2. But this is not a bad record at all - even though the sonic quality is bad (like a bootleg record). Keep on proggin' ..!
