VERS DEMAIN

Fifth album from ML, and the one announcing a slow death, starting with LeGuennec and Jardon leaving the band, forcing Poulet to pull a Phil Collins, coming from behind his drums to sing out front, thus leaving him and Pierson as the only original members left. We are now in 79 (not that late for the French prog scene), but it is clear that the band is worn to the threads and are having a problem finding another label for their new album. Once they re-signed an one-album deal with the same Crypto label, the album proved to be a flop, both commercially and artistically.

It's not that the individual short tracks (max 5 mins) are bad per se? some are even good?., but compared with their previous albums, the purpose seems gone and the succession of them is simply not cutting the mustard with this proghead. While two tracks are instrumental (with ML, I find those always better), most of the other songs lack LeGuennec's vocals to give it that typical ML touch. But the group still pulls a few catchy tunes that are worth the detour to fans. The Musea reissue presents three bonus tracks which completes the album, not interfering with the smooth easy-listening glide over it.

VD would actually prove to be their last album before the band folded. They have reformed during the 90's, just before the millennium, but I must say I was not inclined to listen to what they were doing then.
