Empathi biography
Originating from Chiang Rai, in the north of Thailand, Empaθi (Empathi) is a progressive rock band whose compositions veer away from the genre's typical symphonic approach. The band's 2016 self-titled debut album, a primarily instrumental affair, presents an odd blend of styles, woven together into a collection of short pieces, each approximately 4 minutes in length. Best described as experimental, Empathi's tense and rhythmically challenging style borrows from such diverse influences as jazz, ethnic Southeast Asian music, and psychedelic rock, in addition to classic prog of the 1970's. Empathi is also noteworthy for their use of experimental electronic sound production, including semi-random compositional algorithms and artificial voices. Despite their unorthodox compositional style, Empathi is still immediately recognizable within the prog rock realm, with prominent keyboard work and complex guitar playing, and should be of interest to fans of inventive avant-garde music.
