Turdetans biography
A Spanish combo TURDETANS were founded in Alcalá de Guadaira (Seville) as a studio-based rock project by J.M PINTO (lead vocals), Francisco GONGORA (guitars) and J.L. PORTILLO (bass, drums, keyboards). Actually they've not appeared on stage so far (time would change though), whilst they're focusing in writing and composing music, according to their words. Their debut opus "Suite Of Dreams" was released in August 2020 via their Bandcamp page.

4 stars This fantastic debut album "Suite Of Dreams" released in August 2020 by a Spanish studio-based act TURDETANS apparently gives us good dreams. Actually I've got a mail by one of TURDETANS' founders Jose Luis 'Selu' PORTILLO (bass, keyboards, drums) just when I enjoyed sherry in a sherry bar (what an amazing coincidence) and that's the reason I've listened to this album again and again since then. Despite the fact "Suite Of Dreams" is their first full- length creation, this album is filled with their splendid technique and superb sound creativity. I guess they would appeal to worldwide progressive rock fans, since we cannot feel any native flavour nor appearance via this album. They would play with getting inspired by some renowned progressive rock pioneers like Genesis or Dream Theater. It's obvious we can touch their soundscape in the similar vein to such prog giants. On the other hand, they might usually season some pop or catchy tastes on melody lines. Such a mutual exclusive idea in the entire creation is apt to confuse us, but who minds on enjoying the brilliant stuff?

The "Prologue" possesses quite a dreamy texture like the album title. Jose Luis' sticky, enthusiastic voices put good natural spices on the departure. His vocal tips are leaning towards Genesis, namely Peter GABRIEL or George 'Cyrus' SCOTT. Such a similar vein to the Symphonic vanguards goes along to the following melodic message "Insomnia" featuring steady slowtempo guitar-oriented psychedelia and sound-effective comfort. In "Lucid Dreams" Juan's voice sounds like an obvious possession of Peter. Not so good but pretty atmospheric and passionate indeed. Jose's keyboard works are also fascinating enough to catch our heart strictly. Contrary to the previous streams, "I Will Be There" consists of hard, sometimes speedy, metallic sound structure like Dream Theater, although the melody lines are acceptable. Francesco's electric guitar technique is very sincere and excellent. Colourful essence should be their characteristic and fascination, let me say.

"Parasomnia" involves mysterious addiction in the melodic / rhythmic development. Delightful uptempo theatrical suggestions encourage us, regardless of the title. Suggest this song would give us an enchanting dream under our sleeping situation, right? Also the following track "Rapid Eye Movement" means that we are drastically dreaming under a light fitful sleep. Makes sense really, because of such an alternative melodic alteration. It's quite interesting to understand their intention for expressing this circumstance by such a musical method. Their huge passion can be felt through "December 5th ~ Thousands Of Angels" full of enchanting melodic phrases and rigid rhythm bases. But do not relax our guard, or we will be conquered by the next step "Born Again", one of the most challenging and magnificent songs all over the creation. We can hear all of their kaleidoscopic essence via this stuff. Very energetic and enthusiastic as if they could have set their milestone, I imagine? The epilogue "Wake Me Up" is also powerful and dramatic. The melody line is good and their strong intention towards the authentic melodic progressive metal constitution can directly be felt. Impressive and suitable for the last run.

In conclusion, "Suite Of Dreams" can be mentioned as a wonderful debut shot, regardless of their musical attitude and strategy. Wondering where they will go on the following opus. Yes, it IS enjoyable for us the audience, and we are looking forward to their real destination in near future.
