RĘDSEL ("Fear" or "Horror" in English, a Danish word that comes from a book by Kierkegaard) were founded in 2017 as a post-rock quartet in Kassel (Germany) by Philipp (drums), Stefan (bass), Andreas (guitar, vocals) and Richard (guitar, vocals). RĘDSEL released their first ep entitled "A Simple Act Of Redirection" in 2018 on their own (via Bandcamp page). Later they signed a contract with an independent post-rock label Fluttery Records and launched their second album "Menetekel" in May 2021.

3 stars Another new post-rock wave from Kassel, Germany. RĘDSEL were founded in 2017 as a promising German post-rock project. This album "Menetekel" was released as their second album via an independent post-rock / ambient label Fluttery Records in 2021, which is filled with their young energetic attitude for every single progressive rock fan. The quartet's play and performance have already been sufficiently polished and would give an immersive impression for the audience regardless of their authentic post-rock style. I think "Menetekel" should be worth listening to with a peace of mind, in a good sense.

In this whole creation, we can feel their fresh and fruity rock power. The first shot "My hands Your Eyes" gets started with delightful acoustic initiative in a heartwarming manner, followed by sensitive but assertive fantasia full of deep, heavy fuzz and destructive loudness. The melodic lines are pretty acceptable and favourable, as if they would say there be no toughness nor painfulness, even under such a pandemic situation. "Treetop" features smooth, dreamy beats, massive attractive dissonance, and delicate chorus. In "Medicore" we can touch their romantic acoustic, ambient potential overall. Guess they might have intensive delicacy on the intima. The titled track is one of the darkest, the most enthusiastic ones really. Repetitive phrases on their shoegaze performance are pretty cool. And heavy, explosive approaches knock our mind door. The last "Follow The Little Dotted Line" is well-balanced, exactly a combination of a bit complicated / full-of-passion movements, slightly calm / tragic moments, and uptempo magnificent rollingstone-y vibes.

A wonderful opus really, and this should notify us that they will create more and more innovative stuff in near future. Cheers.
