Sovak biography
Sovak is an Istanbul based productive and progressive trio made of Emre Kula, Onur Başkurt and Kerem T�z�n.

Emre and Onur have been playing music together for fairly 15 years, are founding members of bands such as Kes and Helak, and recently Kerem joined them who we know from bands like Kurban and Nekropsi.

Sovak, consisting of Emre Kula on guitar, Onur Başkurt on drums and Kerem T�z�n on bass, released their self-titled debut album in February 2024 after two singles "Terra" and "Of". The album took its place among the rare examples of instrumental prog metal in Turkey. Sovak has a musical approach that freely uses elements of eastern and western music within the tradition of progressive hard music. The band members, who you may recognize from bands such as Kes, Kurban and Helak, enrich their songs with improvisations in concerts.

They continue to search and perform music with a leaning towards heavy music, but without any boundaries.

Sovak was formed by three talented musicians who had previously played in various Turkish rock bands. Their self-titled debut album is a guitar-oriented work featuring many heavy, Tool-esque guitar riffs. With this album, the band has managed to create a unique sound, thanks to the prolific musical backgrounds of its members. Influenced by Eastern music, the album generally has an energetic, fast-paced sound, but also includes sections where the acoustic guitar takes the forefront. I recently had the chance to watch the band perform live on their Anatolian Prog Tour across Turkey, and they truly demonstrated a high level of musicianship.
