Doctors of Space biography
Dr Space (Scott Heller) is a doctor of Endocrinology (PhD) as well as being a synthesizer player. He started playing synthesizer in 1999, encouraged by Magnus (guitar, synth) whose band MANTRIC MUSE, he used to attend and record a lot of their rehearsals. This led to him joining the Danish Psychedelic stoner rock band, GAS GIANT. In 2001, his first recordings can be heard on the Gas Giant track, "Firetripper", on the split LP with the Norwegian band, WE. In 2004, he was no longer playing and managing Gas Giant and started jamming with the guys in Mantric Muse (DK) and BLAND BLANDEN (SE). This led to the formation of the Scandinavian supergroup ØRESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE Øresund Space Collective who released its first album in 2006 on Transbustans Records in Sweden. The collective has been his main band since 2004 and has played concerts all over the Europe the last 19 years and released more than 44 records!

In addition to ØRESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE, Dr Space, played in BLACK MOON CIRCLE, a space rock band from Trondheim, Norway from 2013-2023. The band did three European tours, yearly gigs in Norway and recorded three jam series live in the studio records as well as five studio albums, a 10" and 7" record. The band still plays today but without Dr Space.

In 2011, WEST, SPACE AND LOVE was formed with members from the Swedish band, SIENA ROOT, KG WESTMAN (guitar, sitar, keyboards) and Love FORSBERG (drums, percussion, other instruments). The first album released in 2012, 'WSL II' was released in 2015, and 'West, Space and Love III' will be out on Space Rock Productions in November 2024.

Dr Space put out his first solo material in the series entitled DR SPACE'S ALIEN PLANET TRIP, with 'Vol 1' bring released in 2017. Material in this series features different guitar or bass players adding to synthesizer improvisations recorded by Dr Space. The series has featured numerous guitar players such as Stefan Krey (GAS GIANT), Nicklas Sørensen (PAPIR), Ricardo D Orlando (ALIEN PLANETSCAPES), Daniel Lars, Marin Weaver (Dark, Wicked Lady) and bass players Hasse Horrigmoe (TANGLE EDGE), William Kopecky (KOPECKY, YETI RAIN, PÄR LINDH PROJECT, HAIKU...

— First review of this album —
4 stars This is the first time I have come across Doctors of Space, a project which features Dr Space (Hammond, Mellotron, MOOG Modular, Custom Modular Synth, Nord Lead 2, Novation Ultranova, Octave CAT, Yamaha CS-10) from Øresund Space Collective/Black Moon Circle and Dr Martin Weaver (guitars, bass, drum machines, MicroFreak, Cauldron synth) from Wicked Lady/Dark. Apparently, this album is a collage of older tracks mixed with new more electronic pieces to create a single 70-minute-long piece of music which is broken into eight songs if one feels the need to break the listening for whatever reason (just don't shuffle).

Weaver has been creating jam-style improvisational music for more than 50 years, and in Heller he really has discovered a kindred spirit. In turn, Heller is here working with just one other musician, and the result is music which is much heavier and with more direction and loads more guitar than one would normally find on his releases with ØSC. In some ways it is closer to the instrumental passages of Hawkwind, yet while punchy it can also still be lengthy and drawn out as the musicians go where they will, bouncing ideas off each other. It is definitely music which needs to be played on headphones, and preferably at night when the stars are out and one can drift away staring into the cosmos.

I have no idea how Heller keeps on top of his different bands, projects and releases, but long may he continue as this is something which captures the ear and will not let go. I hope we hear more from him and Martin Weaver soon.

Thanks to kev rowland for the artist addition.
