US outfit TALAMASCA was formed in 1993, as a direct continuation of a band called Astoria. This earlier incarnation of the band basically imploded when guitarist and keyboardist Robert Carpenter left, and rather than directly recruiting a replacement Brita Rae Borough (guitars, sitar), Nancy Kaye (vocals), Dave McClelland (bass, percussion, guitars) and Brian Young (drums) opted for a change of name and a subtle alteration in style to boot, recruting Nissan Madsen (sax, recorder, vocals) as an additional member. Italian label Mellow Records signed them on, and Talamasca managed to release their one and only album "Rites of Passage" on that label before another band implosion occured.
