Drosselbart biography
DROSSELBART is a Krautrock band from Germany featuring the talents of Peter Randt on guitar, Jemina on vocals, Christian Trachsel on keyboards, Dietmar Mainka on guitar, Werner Schuler on bass, and Martin Honemeyer on drums.

The band have released one self titled studio album in 1970, and 2 singles lifted from the LP "Jemima / Du Bist Der Eine Weg" 1970, and "An Einem Tag Im August / O'Driscoll" 1971. The music is keyboard driven with the melodic vocals of Jemima, along with psychedelic textures and church organ passages. The band utilise a Hammond organ sound at times, swathes of ethereal synthesizers and then launch into heavy rock guitar in the vein of DEEP PURPLE or URIAH HEEP.

There is a beauty in the sound infused with heavier aggressive riffs. The German vocals are expressive, often crying out, similar to the German vocals of DR. WOLFFF or EULENSPYGEL.

The band should appeal to Krautrock fans and is one of the more obscure gems in the genre.

4 stars Drosselbart / hum ... I like ! The beginning of the album begins quite heavy with some music from Catholic Church. The chorus is very Catholic and sang, the voice of Jemina just as a counterpoint to that of Peter Randl, singing in German is more beautiful still qu'Eulenspygel while finesse because the effects are very beautiful especially on the title bears the name of the singer 'Jemina'. Piano, bass, drums everything is in place, the psychedelic side surfaces, although this group remains a group of Heavy and little influenced by the Krautrock. Guitar Dietmar Mainka is very interesting, the sound is really good. They sing about love Liebe ist nur eint wort . A beautiful blend of heavy, sweetness, I was amazed by against the bad reviews on this group, generally being rather astonished praise on certain albums. Here is the opposite, surely the band's music is not included, but I had it includes what is important. "Engel del todes" is very beautiful, this is a Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection, also Jemina with a delirium voice.

3 stars Poor old Drosselbart! Only 2.54 scored from only 2 ratings! Well I'm going to stand up for this little great unknown gem of an album. It's one of the first Krautrock albums I ever heard and will always have a place in my heart. I was drawn to it by the cover with the worms crawling out of the Earth (whatever that means?).

The best thing about it is that it's sung in German - the way it should be. Considering it's from 1970, I think it's pretty darn good. I've listened to this on my bicycle doing a 15 mile trek to work thinking Crikey - what a great album. It made me peddle like a loon! Okay, okay, there is one real stinker on it called 'Du Bist Eine Weg' but bar that it's all pretty good stuff, no really it is!.

All regular instruments are present, but it's kind of 'stop start, stop start' followed by Deutschen Sprechen throughout. Definitely worth 3 stars and a lot better than a lot of the krautrock stuff that was to follow. Funky Kraut... Yeah!

2 stars Here we have the last two songs of the eponymous DROSSELBART album which are released as a single vinyl. A little bit disappointing as for my taste. They cannot reach the charm of the other single excerpt 'Jemina / Du Bist Der Eine Weg'.

An Einem Tag Im August is very folky and only attracts attention because of the good acoustic and electric guitar accompaniment. O'Driscoll starts dreamy and changes to a heavier rocking part. But this one can be counted to the weaker songs of the album.

This one is only interesting for vinyl collectors of obscure Krautrock bands - but not more ...

3 stars Here we have two gentle songs of the DROSSELBART eponymous debut released as a single. Dedicated to Mono Gunia aka Jemima who was a member of the band and also a popular female opera and studio vocalist. The native vocals are expressive like similiar german bands for example DR. WOLFFF or EULENSPYGEL which intended to deliver a political message but the lyrics are transfigured and full of metaphors this time.

The band blends psychedelic, classic and folk elements in a successful manner. You van hear nice polyphonic vocals with the first song which has a charming melody. Jemima cares for a special opera feeling. The melancholic ode to Jesus Du bist der eine Weg is composed with cembalo and flute which brings up a strong folk mood first. But DROSSELBART also forms an interesting contrast later on with psych guitars and a more powerful rhythm section.

A good excerpt of the band's debut album - 3.5 stars.

3 stars I'm a krautrock maniac but I assume that this album contains really weak aspects. The musicians are good and the heavy rocking parts and psychedelic effects reveal some catchy moments, however the compositions suffer of poor ideas and some misplaced pseudo religious chants & harmonies. This last tendency doesn't work with the basic psych-rock weirdness in the background. "Inferno" is an aggressive heavy rock "trip" with Hammond organs and frenetic voices. The crying female voices added on it are out of place. The weakest part of the album. The best tracks are the melodic "Jemima" with its piano notes, stoned, desperate voices and a nice heavy-kraut groove, also the pastoral, meditative, acoustic & folkish "Du bist der eine Weg". "Engel des Todes" is a "stoned", aggressive, conventional heavy rock piece with weird crying voices at the end, crazy organs..."Folg Mir" is an other eccentric, dynamic rock excursion in the genre of Uriah Heep and Deep Purple. Mysterious, gentle kraut-psychedelica cut with touches of a wild heavy rock. Certainly not among the best but a few songs reveal impressive immersive feelings within a nice musical aesthetic.

1 stars Another krautrock album with no reviews so I decided to write something. I hate that record - simple keyboards driven prog rock, with frustrating vociferous female background. Melodies and rhythm are trivial. Guitar work is weak. Church music is called and lyrics also say about religion but they are german so I can say nothing about them. Weak record.

Some sources say that is a legendary group. For me it is a inferior german group. Zero stars.
