Fukkeduk biography
Fukkeduk is yet another fascinating creation from the Belgian school of Avant-Chamber Rock. They consist of a wide array of musicians from violinist Rik Verstrepen (Cro-Magnon) to Producer/guitarist Nick Didkovsky (Doctor Nerve), with the kind compliments from the more than commendable woodwind, string and brass section. The year 1994 was to be an eccentric year for Fukkeduk, releasing Ornithozozy, which sadly was to be their first and last release. But the recruitment of producer/guitarist Nick Didkovsky under their belts definitely put the wheels in motion for what was to be an outstanding release.
Binding many influences, Fukkeduk startle us with their tasteful fusion of Rock, Folk, Jazz and classical; along with anything else they could cram in-between. Ornithozozy was certain to be one wild electrifying trip, finding its footings somewhere between the raw pounding energy of Doctor Nerve, and the wits of X-Legged Sally. Fukkeduk keep their compositions short and to the point. The arrangement and structure is astounding; placing an almost anal precision behind every note, but still allowing an amazing characterization within each piece.
Fukkeduk is a must for those who love their music energetic, intense, with a dash of humour on the side. No RIO/Avant-rock collection should be without Fukkeduk's sole effort Ornithozozy, highly recommended.

3 stars 3.5 stars really!!!

Sole album from this entirely Flemish band (even if half the title are in French) that seems to have been recorded between Ghent (recording and homebase) and Antwerp (production, label and fabrication) on the ultra small label Lowlands, which Ornitozozy is their third release. Musically the group hovers between X-Legged Sally (which is no surprise as Kuijken and Maris were regular contributors) and Flat Earth Society and the crazy first two Cro Magnon albums. It must be said that between 92 and 94, the progressive jazz-rock scene exploded in Belgium and that Fukkeduk is a part of this.

Outside the realm of Belgium, Fukkeduk will remind you of Alamaailman Vasaret, Uzva, and the Quebec counterparts of Miriodor, Interference Sardine and Rouge Ciel. One of the distinguishing marks is the regular uses of strings instruments as Kuijken (cellos) and Verstrepen & Klinck (violin) are often at the forefront, as is Maris' trumpet, however the sound is also one that approaches a big band (they're nine). The album rolls out smoothly with no weak spots, a lot of good moods, the odd humour, a lot of quirky "songwriting" and the album's highlight comes at the two thirds of the album, Brochen Sie Noch Em Bischen Sand?, where the group is very impressive in cohesion. There is a typical Gyspsy jazz feel coming from the horn section.

I wouldn't really call Fukkeduk essential, but it is very representative of the effervescence happening in Belgium at the time.

Thanks to Black Velvet for the artist addition. and to easy livin for the last updates
