Reflux biography
REFLUX is a progressive metal band from Washington D.C., USA consisting of Ash Avildsen (vocals), Tosin Abasi (guitar), Evan Brewer (bass), and Vinny Vinh (drums). They were formed in March of 2002 by Ash and Tosin, but didn't become the progressively brutal and melodic band the pair had envisioned until Vinny and Evan joined the band. Vinny and Evan solidified the lineup with their total commitment to the band and brought the necessary skills to keep up with Ash and Tosin's challenging technical material which has the musical complexity and savagery of MESHUGGAH and the melodic intensity of bands like KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and SHADOWS FALL.

REFLUX released their debut album "The Illusion of Democracy" on Prosthetic Records in 2004. The lyrics of Ash Avildsen are conspiracy themed and politically aimed.

WHY THIS BAND IS IN THE ARCHIVES:

REFLUX is known for their diversity and technical expertise. They keep a solid punishing base while combining odd time signatures and experimental diversions. They unite the visceral passion of hardcore and the vicious attack of death metal with a certain avant-garde virtuosity. They were approved by the Prog Metal Team and are highly recommended.

Review by Hrvat

3 stars Reflux only released one album back in 2004, called THE ILLUSION OF DEMOCRACY. They broke up shortly after. A short-lived career but one that has proven to be incredibly influential on modern progressive metal. This album broke new ground, along with the Sikth and BTBAM pioneering the progressive metalcore sub-genre which has subsequently seen an explosion of young bands following in their footsteps. Most notably the band was the first home of guitarist Tobin Abasi who has gone onto find fame with his solo instrumental project Animals as Leaders. The album itself is incredible and a must listen for anyone with an interest in the extreme end of progressive metal. An underated classic
