Ambiente biography
AMBIENTE is a post rock band from Tijuana, Mexico consisting of Mr. O (guitar, effects), Pablo Vela (bass), Zoell S.F. (drums) and Mousiky (guitar, effects). The band originally formed in March of 2000, but did not solidify their line-up until 2006 and recorded their first EP and official album "A" in the summer of 2008.

AMBIENTE is currently offering their debut album "A" for free download by registering to their mailing list on their official myspace page.

WHY THIS BAND IS IN THE ARCHIVES:

AMBIENTE mix instrumental rock with distorted guitars focusing on melody and melancholy. They are similar in style to EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY and MIAOU. They were approved by the Post Rock Team and are very highly recommended!

4 stars I'm not to be called post-rock (I'm lacking work prog here), but I have to say that I mostly like good post (not these that appear on forum), when I I hear it. And this Mexican invasion sounds like a quite good crossover, where one of these things that crosses (like corner of four neighboring states) is post-rock. Then something like jazz (for sure, I hear it) and harder parts. With "interesting element" flavour. OK, it may sound silly, but how do you want to describe emotions ? And complete lack of lyrics (normal for post-rock, I know) doesn't help it at all. Well, at least the music is truly inter-national.

4(+), great "debut". And let's say, "free" for download, even it means ... (blah blah). Interesting, it truly is. You'll not be disappointed I suppose.

Ambiente Post Rock/Math rock

3 stars These guys sound like some combination of GODSPEED! and SONIC YOUTH. I'm not a fan of the post rock genre, but I can easily say that this album has surprised me. Plus, if you sign up for their newsletter on their website, you get the album for free!

I fall for albums that time their songs well. The first track, for example, was a great opener with its hypnotic drum and bass loops complimented with the post rock style guitars. The second track was a bit tiresome because I wasn't hearing much energy from the band yet, but the third track solved that problem with the loud distorted guitars. The fourth track was also energizing. The drums and guitar perfectly blended in this track. With the fifth track, the band calms down with a more quiet, Shine On You Crazy Diamond-ish pace. The sixth song, to me, sounds like your average post rock song, with a string instrument playing in the background and the exploding high reverb guitar. Didn't like it that much. The second to the last track was the most pleasing to me. This was the track that reminded me of SONIC YOUTH, probably because of the guitar thrashing and experimentation. Finally, we arrive at the last track, which opens and closes almost perfectly. It starts with what the second to last song ended with and ends with a MAR DE ROBLES style guitar and maraca combination which is then followed by a long segment that sounds like it was right out of a BOARDS OF CANADA album. Overall, the album was good. It met my expectations, unlike most post rock bands. I recommend it for any prog-rocker, especially those who are into the Latin prog bands.
