Volcano! biography
US outfit VOLCANO! was formed in 2003, consisting of Mark Cartwright (synths, laptop, bass, melodica), Sam Scranton (drums, percussion) and Aaron With (guitars, vocals). Their aim was to create music fusing improvisation and abstraction, with pop melodies and harmonies. Their debut effort Beautiful Seizure was issued in 2005, an album where the band strived to explore the more extreme parts of their musical vision.

While they found their initial creation to be both fun and interesting to make, they decided to be less extreme after this. To restrain their experimental urges, more to be utilized as effects and thus heighten the impact when used. This approach was used in the making of their sophomore effort, Paperwork, issued in the fall of 2008.

Following the release of their second album Volcano! toured extensively, including European tours at the end of 2008 and the spring of 2009.
