Kormorany biography
Kormorany is legendary Polish underground band, founded in early 80-s in Wroclaw. Their first known concert happened in 1984 on Young Talents Festival ( ( Festiwal Młodych Talentów, Park Południowy-Wrocław).During 80-s they were band of ever changing line-up, playing their music in unusual places - tunnels, construction sites, WWII abandoned German bunkers, basins, even churches . Often musicians both together with listeners were arrested by Communist Poland's militia.

Situation changed in 1991, after Communist regime was dead. In 1990 and 1991 they participated on Audio Visueel Experimenteel Festiwal ,Arnhem (Holland). At the same time they started collaborate with Kliniką Lalek theater (Puppets Clinic), playing music for plays. Band?s members, besides of later line-ups members (Paweł, Tuńczyk, Blusmen, Konik ), were Jacek Ponton Jankowski (founder, sax, vocals) and Marzena Wrońska Gołacka (vocals).

From that time all their activities are connected with theatres - they played music for different Polish theatres' plays during all 90-s and 00-s. Usually, they play live during theatre play. In 2000 their first album TERAZ was recorded. The material for in was live recordings of theatrical concert in Wroclaw's Kalambur Theatre (recorded December 12, 1999). Line-up, participated on this recording, was was Paweł Czepułkowski, Jacek Tuńczyk, Fedorowicz, Piotr Blusmen Jankowski, Krzysztof Konik Konieczny, Artur Gaja Krawczyk, Michał Litwa Litwiniec..

In 2008 band recorded their second album MIASTO - live recordings from Rura Jazz Club of 2007.

In 2009 band prepared new theatric program La Musica Teatrale, their current line-up is:: Piotr Blusmen Jankowski- guitars, Artur Gaja Krawczyk- percussion, Krzysztof Konik Konieczny- guitars, viola and Jacek Tuńczyk Fedorowicz- bass, guitars.

Most interesting musically their period was during their early years - heavy rock influenced avant prog, often melodic, with Polish urban folklore elements. Later works are more soundtracks-oriented.

3 stars Debut of Polish legendary underground band from Wroclaw. It's pity, that for band active and really popular from 1984, their first album was recorded in 1999 and released in 2000 only!

Even more - their debut is live recording of theatrical concert in Wroclaw's Kalambur Theatre (recorded December 12, 1999). As a result, sound quality is far from excellent. Band demonstrates their best abilities - excellent complex drumming, heavy guitar attacks and sax soloing over it. Because of complex dark drumming, dominating over the sound, in many places listener can feel zeuhl Magma-like atmosphere.

From another hand, for decades band's home was theater. And too often on this album you can hear that there isn't usual concert, but live soundtrack to theatrical happening. So don't be shocked when somewhere in the middle of the album you will hear freaky version of " Besame Mucho" , played almost on a klezmer manner with brass and spoken vocals in Polish over it!

Still during all album listener can feel music isn't concentrated and in many moments sound as real soundtrack to the action you can't see. I believe it was great to listen and see band live during such musical happening. And I believe as well best album's songs, recorded in studio, could be excellent material for great studio album. But - we have what we have.

Still good album and great evidence of Polish avant prog. Recommended for avant fans , searching for unusual and obscure recordings, but could be interesting listening for everyone (who will be able to find this very rare release).

Thanks to snobb for the artist addition.
