Vitruvius biography
VITRUVIUS is a progressive metal band from Mexico, formed in late 2006. It all started from an idea of Uriel Salinas to re-unite EROGENA, when Oskar VILLAREAL(guitar) and Tonio Tejeda, ex-members of the band in 2003, met Armando ''Bjorn'' THAMEZ (bass, ex-ALAGHOM). THAMEZ was very interested and joined VILLAREAL in the search of a vocalist, who was found in Dulce ROBLES among auditions of a series of singers. Composition of structures and songs started by the trio at VILLAREAL's home studio, and by the end of March 2007, composition of lyrics by ROBLES had started as well.

In that year, and when most of the material was composed they started playing in small local festivals, with Ronnie RODRIGUEZ on drums. Their debut self-titled album was recorded through 2008 and 2009 with Lucas ESPINOZA (keyboard) contributing in the song 'Somewhere'. The album was released in 2011 by Dust On The Tracks Records.

VITRUVIUS' sound resembles to that of DREAM THEATER but with the use of female vocals it takes a more melodic/symphonic approach. The band quotes the following bands among their influences: SYMPHONY-X, AYREON, DALI'S DILEMMA, DREAM THEATER, PINK FLOYD, RITCHIE KOTZEN, AGHORA, EVERGREY, PAIN OF SALVATION, PORCUPINE TREE, RUSH, JASON BECKER, JONAS HELLBORG, AGORA, IL BALLETO DI BRONZO, FOCUS, SPIRAL ARCHITECT, YES.

3 stars Great second offer named Above The Silvered Sky from 2016 by this mexican prog metal band Vitruvius with female Dulce Robles shining all through on vocals and some impressive keyboards/guitars duelings, quite solid drumming aswell. Even all pieces from here are around 5-6 min, the passages are well constructed and well developed with some intresting instrumental parts, a piece like Heaven and hell is always a pleasure to listen, top musicianship and damn good vocal parts, the rest of the pieces are good aswell. I kinda like the debut more, but this one aswell is quite a nice one. 3.5 stars for sure, for fans of Ayreon, Symphony X, Dream Theater, etc. Intresting art work

4 stars Above The Silvered Sky is the second album by Mexican band Vitruvius and it was self-released in 2016 after a long, painstaking studio work with a line up featuring Dulce Robles (vocals), Ronnie Rodriguez (drums) and multi- instrumentalist and composer Oskar Villarreal (guitars, bass, keyboards) with the help of keyboardist Lucas Espinoza on three tracks. The result of their efforts is an interesting album, rich in ideas and oozing passion. Quiet, pastoral passages alternate with heavier parts where 'steaming, flowing waves' of dark energy can stir your imagination and take you across the sky for an unexpected voyage above the clouds of the daily grind... Well, maybe the wonderful artwork by Carlos Vargas describes the music and lyrics better than my all words! Recommended to fans of bands such as Dream Theater or Symphony X.

4 stars Vitruvius is a young progressive metal band from Mexico, who realy capture my attention with their first album issued this year - 2011 selftitled. Female fronted band, Dulce Robles has a pleasent voice whom integrates very well in the music, but the cherry on the cake here is the instrumental passages, who realy kick ass on every piece. From the opening track Stealing a Tear From the Rain, the listner will know that something great will appear in the almost 1 hour music. Excellent musicianship, even the song writting is ok, but nothing really new under the sun, only pleasent with some amazing passages, specialy the twin guitar of Oskar Villarreal and Tonio Tejeda. The druming is more then ok, some great chops made by Ronnie Rodriguez worth to be invistigated on this first release of Vitruvius. Now, the voice is ok here, has plenty of good moments but her range is not the one I like on female vocalists, I don,t know, but the tone of her voice is sometimes irritating but not bad combined with music, in her most calm moments I don,t like her at all. The main attraction is instrumental passages, who realy has something to say, if this album were all instrumental, then something was a lot diffrent, and I mean a higher rate and a more pleasent and catchy release, at least for me. The interply between musicin is excellent, just take a listen to the instrumental track Alchemist , simply great, and of course the rest of the passages, another worthy moments are on opening track or in the last piece Black Sphere divided in 2 parts, the first one is atmospheric with spacey moents , while the second parts, is a great ex of how must sound progressive metal these days. So, a quite good towards great first release of this mexican bad, desearve from me 3.5-4 stars, if the voice was more intristing and had a diffrent aproach then my rate were higher for sure, still fans of prog metal, take a listen because worth it.
