Deep Sweden biography
A Prague-based chamber rock ensemble DEEP SWEDEN saw the moonlight momentarily as a comet in late 1990s. They were founded by a guitarist (and later a renowned music journalist in Czech) Petr HNILO and three mademoiselles - Roman HOLUB (cello), Alex MARCULEWICZ (voices), and Emma McCLUNE (violin) - each of whom had a different citizenship from other. The audience all over the world was quite impressed with their multinational chamber rock based upon electroacoustic guitar, cello, and violin, combined with lyrics in English. They were disbanded after gigging many times and recording material for only one album titled "Maiden Prague" (1997).

— First review of this album —
3 stars A brilliant chamber music maison filled with voices of "mad"emoiselles. Quite amazed from the beginning shot "The Story That Aesop Found Under The Table" actually ... a rebellious suprapop creation "Maiden Prague" by a Czech short-lived chamber project DEEP SWEDEN would vaporize our mixed feelings against pop and "so-called" avantgarde progressive rock regardless of 3-minute shortness of every track upon the vinyl. All songs are full of light-tasted, simple but refined, well-matured phrases created by the community of four talented musicians / artists.

Anyway the female voices (by Emma and Alex?) sound very colourful, sensitive, and phantasmagoric in each track. Sometimes they sing enthusiastically, and sometimes lazy or indolent. We the audience would get baffled with their chameleonic appearances I imagine. Of course, every appearance should be appropriate for the instrumental atmosphere. Exactly we can hear an attractive signboard called "vocal" everywhere ... would get full stomach (ear?) only via such a fantastic manner.

An acoustic guitar chops and two stringed instruments' waterfall are superb too ... sounds like the commune (except vocals) might play magnificently, powerfully, and coldheartedly. It might be a tough call for them to stuff, squeeze their mad but cool whole musical essence into every short track. We can realize obvious limitation or similarity all over the album instrumentally produced with only an acoustic guitar, a cello, and a violin indeed, but their simple sounds are enough seasoned with female crazy / cynical / critical voice machineguns. Cannot avoid such an effective kaleidoscope, can you?

Not so special as other chamber combos in those days but this impressive creation should be worth listening to. Why not enjoy it?

Thanks to DamoXt7942 for the artist addition.
