SLP biography
SLP is a band from Canada lead by the cellist Sebastien LEPINE who has a solid reputation as a classical musician. But with this band, he uses a electric cello to experiment a heavier progressive rock style. The band is completed with Martin CARBONNEAU (guitar), Ian PETERSON (bass) and drummer Denis MARCHAND. The result is a jazz fusion progressive rock CD, called ''Perception'' (2011) with dark atmosphere and eclectic variety of sounds that goes from groovy, heavy and discordant. The songs are instrumental and show influences of KING CRIMSON, GENTLE GIANT and KBB.

3 stars Sebastien Lepine Project also known as SLP is a canadian band taking the name from cellist Sebastien Lepine. He is helped by guitarist Martin Carbonneau, bassist Ian Peterson, and drummer Denis Marchand. The debute album is named Perception and is released by Unicorn digital label in 2011. Hmm, quite impressive album, very complex with lots of breaks and pleasent arrangements, all album is instrumental with from all 6 pieces , 2 are very lenghty. Instrumental progressive rock with some jazzy passages, quite dark in aproach, remind me a bit of Van Der Graaf Generator without voice, and with a cello added and more edgy in arrangements. The musicians are gifted, skillful , each one know how to handle the instruments and create deep powerfull arrangements, little extravagant aswell. The guitar, the cello is top notch, for instance the best track to me is the ending one Rising Moon, almost 11 min of pure beauty, the cello sounds like is not on this earth but aswell the guitar is great. All pieces are more then ok, maybe the epic Good Evening with total length of 22 min is little atractive to my ears and to long, but neverthe less a good tune. A very promising musician and album, fans of dark instrumental prog rock with jazzy atmosphere might take some spins because worth it.3.5 for Perception.
