Gambit biography
French group Gambit originates from the city of Antibes and was found in 2002 by Stephane Chefdeville on guitars, Phillipe Sereix on vocals, Gerald Garnier on drums and Jean-Luc Simon on bass. However they started as a cover band, playing a rather standard type of rock music, but things seem to turn around in 2007 with the arrival of Stephane Guenoun on keyboards. Their self-released debut ''Machiavelique'' from 2009 shows Gambit performing a sophisticated progressive rock, strongly influenced by the poetic lines of ANGE, albeit in a much more modern version with heavier PORCUPINE TREE-like textures added for good measure. Fast forward, in 2013 they presented their second album ''Abyssal'', another self-released production, following a similar vein as their debut, introducing new singer Patrick Follaco in the place of Phillipe Sereix.

3 stars From France is coming this little known neo prog band named Gambit formed around 2002 and releasing so far two albums. Abyssal is the second offer from 2013 and is a fine yet far from original neo prog release. Gambit has a theatrical aproach to their music, in many parts is sounding like a neo prog Ange with breafly apearing some more metalized sections. Not bad at all, some lenghy tunes here 3 are over 10 min and 2 around 8 min, so enoygh room for instrumental passages who are done right with keyboards/guitars sophisticated duels and some good job on drums example are La valeur des choses and La course contre le temps the best pieces of the album . The voice of Patrick Follaco who sung in french is ok, nothing really special but alright most of the time. All in all a good one for sure, no stand out moments, but all pieces are good. For fans of Splinter, Knight Area, Arena, etc. 3 stars, maybe 3.5 in places, very nice gate fold cover.

Thanks to psarros for the artist addition.
