RAPA NUI

Rapa Nui biography
RAPA NUI is a Peruvian avant-rock project very much akin to the standard of psychedelic progressive experimentation. It comprises a member of CHOLO VISCERAL and another of MERCÌ BABOON: Arturo Quispe and Israel Tenor, respectively. Quispe plays guitar, sax and computer loops; tenor plays drums, percussion and bass. Of all their material posted in their Bandcamp page (http://rapanuiperu.bandcamp.com/), two items have received their physical editions as CDs throughout the year 2013: "Lucha Troglodita" and "Rigel Kentaur". The former has been published by a foreign label.

The essential avant-rock sound that this duo creates is based mainly in sheer psychedelic prog and the old traditions of free-jazz, krautrock and space-rock. In the case of "Rigel Kentaur", some flirtations with post-rock can be traced as well, a factor that clearly hints at RAPA NUI's love for spreading and expanding various elements of experimentation within the most challenging frameworks of progressive rock. The band's résumé includes a collaborative recording with Argentinian ensemble O+YN, an experience that enabled the RAPA NUI guys to further their interest in electronic experimentation.
