Profil biography
PROFIL was an obscure German band active in the early 80's. The group consisted of Alfred BIEBL, Bernd MAYER, Hans SCHNEIDER and Hans-Rainer KOLB; where the latter of the two's respectable instruments, namely keyboards and guitar solos is what drives most of PROFIL's only album 'For You' released in 1982. The sound of the band can be compared to spacey jazz rock of a band like SBB, but perhaps more subdued and tame along the lines of bands in the krautrock genre.

3 stars PROFIL were a German band who released this sole album back in 1982. The music is all-instrumental with a Jazz/ Rock flavour. The guitar and keyboards lead the way here but man I'm most impressed with the bass player and how upfront he is in the mix. Overall it's an impressive release but the enjoyment factor for me would have to be higher in order to give this 4 stars.

"Kick" opens with drums and synths with some upfront bass before the guitar arrives just before a minute. The guitar starts to solo over top after 1 1/2 minutes. A good start. "Monday Evening" opens with bass and liquid keys along with water sounds. A relaxed beat joins in followed by some laid back guitar around a minute. The tempo picks up after 3 minutes with some impressive guitar. "Magdalena" is my favourite by far. Man this is a moving track that is both light and breezy, it's a feel-good song for me. I like the keys and guitar especially. "Difficult" is both catchy and funky with the bass and synths leading the way. A fun tune.

"Gangster Parade" opens with drums as spacey synths roll in along with chunky bass lines. The guitar starts to solo and the drummer is quite busy here. "Touch Me There" is a fairly laid back number that I quite enjoy, it's the longest song too at 6 1/2 minutes. The synths and guitar take turns leading the way until the bass leads with spacey synths in tow 5 minutes in. "Ta-Tu-Ta-Ta" has this powerful intro that's brief before a funky rhythm takes over after a minute with synths over top. It's okay.

An obscure release for sure but I wouldn't kill yourself trying to find it. A good album though.
