Fanger & Schönwälder biography
Fanger & Schönwälder is a German contemporary Kosmische rock duo formed in the early 90s. They have published most of their materials on Mario Schönwälder's own label Manikin Records. They notably collaborated with pioneering figures of the German progressive rock scene, including Lutz Graf-Ulbrich, Cosmic Hoffman (...) For lovers of hypnotic electronic arpeggios, floating synth sequences and tripped-out krautrockin grooves.

3 stars Three minds at work.

Fanger & Schonwalder's "Earshot", 2013, (Feat. Klaus Hoffmann a.k.a. Cosmic Hoffmann) is rich and enriched by variety in a 5 compositions, 46 minutes release. I pinpoint the duration of the album, due to the fact that it works in behalf and not against most of the times, composition wise, as for keeping unnecessary or uninspired momentums away. It works wonders, almost.

Variety in approaches in this extremely trampled and traveled Progressive Electronic road, with all its interpretations and world-schools.

Anyway this release first 3 tracks are formidable. Eventhough this trio is playing by the "Neo-Electronic Cosmic" music rules, these tracks are unpolluted, music wise. They propose a simultaneous and controlled performance by sounding the same as individuals that as an ensemble and as a unique songwriting proposal by each member's performance and ideas.

Track 4, a bit weaker than its preceding siblings, runs a bit too long, and ends up adding nothing by its time lenght nor its music composition.

Track 5, will satisfy any "Great White Eagle" or Alan Parsons' close follower. It brushes extremely close to sweet-sickening melodic lines, so, non die-hard White Eagle or AP followers as I, may see the decadence and not its peak.

So the rating will go something like this: 3 great tracks, 1 in the middle of the road and 1 involuntary (I suppose) tribute song.

***3.5 PA stars.

Thanks to philippe for the artist addition.
