Plesiosaurio biography
Born in Patagonia, in Rio Negro but now based in Buenos Aires, the band was founded in 2010, by Juan JUNQUERAS (Vocals, Guitars) and Javier ROULET (piano, keyboards) with Miguel Rivera LOPEZ (Bass, acoustic guitar and keyboards) and Juan Pablo SOSA (Vocals, drums, percussion and flute).

The band's influences are from the mid-sixties and mid-seventies rock music but with a deeper modern progressive rock dimension. They were invited to a radio show after sending their first album "El Cuento de las Manos Heladas" that they started to write in 2013.

They started the band by playing some covers and change their line-up with Marcos RAVIOLO (Bass) and Santiago VAQUERO (drums). Raviolo was replaced by Lopez in 2013. At first the dynamic in the band was unstable because some members were working in different cities. Each members have different influences in music from KING CRIMSON, PINK FLOYD, FRANK ZAPPA and classical music. The band made two short live releases before their first album that is a improvement in the composition level and in the sound quality. The band manage to create a unique sound of symphonic prog rock with heavy prog that show their love for the classic rock of the 70's. The songs are reaching the 30 minutes mark with a lot of space to develop long instrumental break. The addition of the flute show a nice contrast with the heavier guitar sound.

2 stars PLESIOSAURIO are a four piece band from Argentina who are still active releasing their latest studio album in 2022. This is their very first release from 2014, a live recording that they did at a bar in Buenos Aires in 2014. I was complaining about the production on their very first self released studio album, well it's a lot worse here not surprisingly I suppose when it was recorded in a bar. It all sounds so muddy and distant and of course you can here people talking at times and there's always one guy screaming in the audience right?

Three tracks worth around 45 minutes of music including the almost 26 minute middle track. A lot of meandering on this recording, lots of organ and guitar for the most part with vocals that come and go and usually they are brief. The drums don't exactly sound right but again it's that recording process. So this is of little value to me other than I'm hearing this band perform their music in front of a crowd.

Kind of cool that they took the title "Arsat-2 1/2" from the name of a satellite built by an Argentinian company. Nice art work too but the recording doesn't measure up unfortunately.

3 stars PLESIOSAURIO are a four piece band from Argentina and this is their debut from 2015. They just released album number two in 2022 and they also have a couple of live recordings which includes their very first release from 2014. The guitarist and drummer both sing and the latter also plays flute. This is a long one at around 73 minutes over six tracks including that 29 1/2 minute closer. This is self released and the sound quality could be better but this for sure is a proggy record. The guitar and organ tend to solo along with the flute. Very much a contrast of mellow and heavy throughout with the mellow lingering around much longer than the heavy. There is a lot of acoustic guitar on here as well I might add.

The short 2 1/2 minute third track with the long title is pretty much acoustic guitar, piano and fragile vocals starting and ending the song with more passion briefly starting before 2 minutes. The next track "Al Cielo Con Crayone" at 4 minutes is pretty catchy starting off mellow with acoustic guitar, reserved vocals and organ. Vocals get stronger and the sound turns snappy. The opener "Viejo Mundo" at over 7 minutes features quite a bit of flute along with acoustic guitar and organ. Mellow stuff but a dancing melody kicks in flute led around 5 1/2 minutes with an ethnic vibe.

"Parte VII" is over 8 1/2 minutes and is different as we get some Ozzy-like vocals here and electric guitar along with drums and organ. There's a darker vibe to this one. Pretty much flute only over the final 2 1/2 minutes or so. "Monte Erebus" is almost 22 minutes long and we get contrasts and repeated themes throughout. It's uptempo and flute led from the hop and some depth here. The first impressive section for me comes after 6 minutes where it turns powerful. It's KING CRIMSON-like around 10 minutes in and heavy a minute later. The closer at well over 29 minutes has it's moments and not so great moments, an inconsistent closer in my opinion. A lot of highs and lows over this period of almost half an hour!

This is a pretty good album and it would be interesting to hear their latest. A 3 star record.
