2 stars This is one of the many movie soundtracks released by Tangerine Dream in the 80s, most of those quite forgettable. Personally I don't know anything about the omonimous move, but Wikipedia says that it's from a novel and is about a Vietnam veteran (Tommy Lee Jones) who takes control of Central Park to protest for the veterans' conditions in the USA.

For a band which has always used a lot of electronics crossing the 80s hasn't been a problem. Froese & co. were ready for the new sounds and even though this album fits perfectly in the period it doesn't sound too dated. Some tracks can remind to what Peter Bardens was doing in the same period, but there are echoes of the Virgin period.

It's a pity that almost all the tracks end in fade out. It's like the director puts the mixer down when the music is no longer essential to the movie. This is the problem with the "O" of "OST". Even containing tracks longer than 5 minutes, they are cut with no respect for the listener.

Anyway it's not a bad album. It's surely better than most of the TD production of the period. Please note that while the album has been printed and released in 1991, the movie has seen the light in 1986, so this is when the tracks have been composed (or improvised).

The dramatic/action plot of the movie helped the artists in creating a nice bunch of tracks, but the cuts and the fading out make the album totally discontinuous. The music inside is good enough, but it would have been better served if it was thought as an album, not necessarily a concept.

Witho a bit of continuity it would have had 3 stars. Sorry, only 2.
