4 stars Peter M is a contemporary experimental electronic-noisy drone project from Italy underground. Originally published in 2005, this album is full of haunted, demonic buzzscapes including a large variety of sounds, tones and noises. slightly reminiscent of Lustmord, SPK (at their most subtle moments), Maurizio Bianchi for the dark immersive parts and to Carpenter & Fabbio Frizzi (without the cheesy jazzy accents) for the Zombi-esque orchestral parts. All tracks feature menacing sonic synth drones, primitive alien sound collages and a few metallic percussions. Believe me the result is absolutely achieved and mindblowing. The opening theme is a fantomatic, spectral and ultimately creepy moving electronic piece. Heart of Light sounds more industrial with deep drone textures and an avalanche of noisy fuzzed out effects (Throbbing Gristle meet concrete music). Red is a dynamic, cinematic gloomy orchestration including collages, and a cavernous, outer space atmosphere. The rest of the album is more reserved to concrete- electro acoustic manipulations (as in the title track) revealing nightmarish, sonic soundscapes. A first & very promising effort. Maybe not for all prog ears but Underworld Dreams remains an impressive album with many ideas and catchy atmospheres.
