4 stars Blue Sunset is the kind of positively-charged album that I've been waiting for from Phrozenlight. The title-track is entirely ambient, but it has a definite "blue" feel to it, like the ocean or the cold, gassy atmosphere of Neptune, or perhaps even our own Earth's blue sky. Light electronic frequencies alternate throughout the background of the airy ambient drone that sounds like magnetic poles interfering with satellite communications, and light resonances and metallic sonorities also ring intermittently through the backdrop of the blue atmosphere. "Death Rock" is shorter, but proves itself to be a change in sound compared to the rest of Phrozenlight's work - it takes a similar ambience as the first track, though a bit darker and windier, and adds a Kraftwerkian propulsive synth beat that gives the track a sense of energy that is usually lacking on earlier releases, all while metallic and industrial electronic effects accentuate the background drone. This track is the shortest of the two on the album, running at about 21 minutes (the first track is about 39 minutes), but both of the tracks work together in a light-versus-dark kind of way.

As the case has been with Phrozenlight, there are many unsatisfying releases between the great releases, and Blue Sunset is definitely one of the better albums in his discography so far.
