4 stars One of a kind...

After growing dissatisfaction towards the direction bebop jazz was taking, Miles used these recordings sessions to build on his earlier experiments with modality.

The Good: Not only is this one of the greatest Jazz records of all time, it is also one of the greatest musical achievements in any genre of music. Whilst many other 'masterpieces' are only appreciated by a select minority, Kind of Blue transcends boundaries and its underlying accessibility cements its role as a portal to the entire Jazz universe.

The Bad: Whilst it was certainly groundbreaking and infinitely influential, I wouldn't necessarily associate it with prog in the tradition sense.

The Verdict: Absolutely essential.
