4 stars An excellent soundtrack with a great variety of sounds. It opens with the acoustic folk of "Cirrus Minor" which is laced with dreamy organ work. The lyrics describe "a churchyard by a river, lazing in the haze of midday...." There are chirping birds in the background to add the effect and you really can imagine yourself in such a place on a gorgeous summers day. The organ part that ends the song is really beautiful.

The mood is soon muffled by the hard rock of "The Nile Song" which tells a story of a special lady. Other great songs include "Green Is The Colour", which is a lovely, delicate ballad. "Cymbaline" is also a highlight and contains some excellent lyrics. There are also several instrumental tracks showing the group's avant-garde approach.

The second half of the record includes a bit of blues and spanish music with Flamenco guitar. You may also notice that there are bongos in many songs too giving the album an exotic feel. This is one of my favourite Pink Floyd albums and the best of theirs from the sixties. 4. 5 stars.
