3 stars They tried to make a hit, what can I say??? Sounds more like adult contemporary to me...This song is kind of whatever to me, but other than that I can't bag them on musicianship or lyrics this band just makes me go apesh*t sometimes.

2 stars THIS IS GEM FOR FANS, BUT IT'S FAR AWAY FROM BEING A MASTERPIECE

I don't know why the 62% of the rating on this single are 5 stars, but anyway. Without a doubt "Another Day" is one of the most charming songs by Dream Theater. Starting with the intro which has this catchy tune very similar to a Bon Jovi ballad or something in the way, and of course it was no surprise that Dream Theater would choose this one for releasing a single. The extra tracks are a good complement for the main theme and include a live version from one the best songs from their previous release "When Dream and Day Unite" and a live version of the single in fact. The quality sound is not the best in the bonus songs; they both work as filling material.

Concluding, fans if you find this material, you'll be one step closer from a complete collection, but if you don't you won't miss anything stunning at all.

3 stars This is a very good EP.

The studio version of "Another Day" is a really good. Sentimental, almost acoustic at times. The whole "Dream Theater" antagonism. A very good rock song. Million miles (or KM) away from some dull AOR music. A great rock "ballad" (whatever ballad might mean for Dream Theater).

This won't be the the case with "A Fortune In Lies". A fantastic live version of a song from their debut album "When Dream And Day Unite " but with LaBrie on the vocals. Dynamite my friends. And great one.

We'll even be able to compare live vs sudio with a great live version of "Another Day". Vocals are rather communicative. LaBrie is really a great performer. He can fully be appreciated while singing live. A gre at rendition of a beautiful track.

It is a real good EP and a must have for the fans. Much more than a collector item IMO.

Three stars.

2 stars "Another Day" is a single released in 1993 by US progressive metal act Dream Theater. The single was released by Warner Music and contains three tracks. The first track on the single is the version of the track "Another Day" which also is featured on Dream Theater´s second full-length studio album "Images and Words (1992)". The two remaining tracks are a live version of "Another Day" and "A Fortune in Lies". The latter appeared in it´s original studio form on Dream Theater´s debut full-length studio album "When Dream and Day Unite (1989)".

The studio version of "Another Day" is a bit unnecessary if you already have "Images and Words", but of course there´s nothing unusual in having the original version of the "title" track included on a single release. It´s a cleverly written ballad type track. The live version of "A Fortune in Lies" is taken directly from the Dream Theater live album "Live at the Marquee (1993)" and the same is true for the live version of "Another Day". However the latter only appears on the Japanese version of "Live at the Marquee (1993)" while "A Fortune in Lies" are present on both the "regular" version and the Japanese special version of "Live at the Marquee (1993)". Both are great versions of the songs. It´s notable that the parts on "Another Day" that were played by saxophone on the original studio version of the track, are played by Kevin Moore on the keyboards on this live version. The exact same live version of "Another Day" is also present on the "Lie" single from 1994.

This single is very much a fan item as all 3 tracks also appear on other releases. The quality of the music is of course extremely high but it´s not unreasonable to question why anyone but the most diehard fans should invest in this release. Therefore a 2.5 star rating is warranted.

2 stars 2.5 stars really!!

This is a solid EP for those not looking for the heavy or prog side of Dream Theater. If all you are searching for is a beautiful song by a prog metal band without buying an entire album, this is where to start for you.

This 3-track EP contains my favorite non-prog Dream Theater song, Another Day. The song features superb soprano saxophone form Spyro Gyra's front man Jay Beckenstein. It is a superb song, though I listen to it on the real album, Images and Words, more. The best part about this EP is the two live versions of Another Day and Fortune In Lies. However, they can both be found somewhere else. This version of Fortune In Lies can be found on their Live At The Marquee album, but this version of Another Day can only be found on the Japanese version.

Really, this is still just a collector album. There's no reason to buy this unless you hate the prog and metal side of Dream Theater. It's a good EP and all, but for fans, they already have all of this music, and newbies looking for prog shouldn't start here either. It's great for a collector, but nothing makes it that much worth the purchase for a fan of Dream Theater.

3 stars Another Day, Another Single to be reviewed...

Another Day is a melodic song taken from the 1992 album 'Images and Words'. Despite the track's blatant commercial feel and the recording of a music video to accompany this song, this single never recieved much success; certainly not as much as Pull Me Under anyway. The lyrics, written by John Petrucci, concern his father who was suffering with cancer at the time. Probably the most distinctive thing about this song, apart from it's ballad-like sound, is the cheesy soprano sax which pops up intermittently throughout, courtesy of Jay Beckenstein. Beckenstein would appear with Dream Theater later in their career. This is a lovely song, and a good choice for a single.

The two extra tracks on the single are live versions of A Fortune In Lies from the band's first album and Another Day. Both tracks were recorded at The Marquee Club in London on 23/04/93, and A Fortune In Lies appears on 'Live At The Marquee'. There are no real surprises in either of these tracks, but it's fun to hear Dream Theater live in their infancy.

This is a pretty bog standard single if you ask me. The B-sides aren't particularly rare, as both can be found on versions of 'Live At The Marquee'. If you like the melodic and thoughtful side of Dream Theater, you'll probably like this single.
