2 stars After falling in love with VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR it was the next logical step to purchase some of Hammill's solo albums. And for me as a german it was quite interesting to hear Hammill sing german. All songs are taken from former solo releases such as "Fireships" or "The Noise" for example. All lyrics where translated by Heinz Rudolf Kunze, a german musician. Hammill's german is very good, a surprisingly light accent but I think it's as good as it can get, I was impressed. Nevertheless I don't really think this one is a highlight because of the assortment of songs and the bad mix. I know Hammill's voice is the essential part of his music but the mix offers a very loud voice and muted, almost inconsiderable instruments. I don't know the original english versions of these songs yet but I think Hammill has a lot of better stuff to offer. This one is interesting for fans or collectors only. Don't start with this one, grap you some of his earlier albums like "Fools Mate", "The Silent Corner & The Empty Stage" or maybe "A Black Box" wich I consider to be much better, not comparable to this one.
