THESE CHAINS (SINGLE)

This was the only single from 1998's "Radiation" album. Unfortunately the band got none, as usual, to little airplay, despite the fact that it is a very catching tune. I think it has more to do with grudges towards the artist than really thinking the song itself was/is rubbish. It surely cannot depend on the quality of the accompanying video (not included with the disc in any way by the way), because I've seen it quite a few times and it is very nice.

Luckily there's more to this single for those that bought the single to get the band some airplay (I bought it years after its release, so don't count me in as part of this group ;-)

The first b-side to this single is an acoustic live cover version of Radiohead's classic song Fake Plastic Trees. Hogarth's voice fits this song perfectly.

The second b-side is a new mix of the song The Memory of Water, which was originally released in 1997 on the "This strange Engine" album. Whereas the original song was an acoustic song that only featured vocals and cello, this new song, the "Big Beat Mix", is, unlike the name might have you thinking, not a dance remix! Instead it is a full-blown electric version of the song, which is nearly three times as long as the original song!

I bought the singly solely for the remix of The Memory of Water, but it is a nice addition for any collection.
