3 stars Friend of the Night is a single release from the fifth full-length studio album Mr. Beast (2006) by Scottish post rock act Mogwai.

The single contains the title track and the songs Fresh Crown and 1% of Monster which sounds like they are both leftovers from the Mr. Beast sessions. Friend of the Night is one of the greatest, most melodic and accessible songs from Mr. Beast but the quality if the two other songs is not up to par with that one. They are pretty good but a bit mediocre.

Friend of the Night is a good single but as most singles it´s probably mostly for the hardcore fans. Us more casual listeners can pass this one by if we already have Mr. Beast. This is of course my opinion and even though this might be mostly for the diehard fans I´m gonna rate Friend of the Night with 3 stars because of the good quality of music on the single.
