PROG REVIEWER

He visited Japan in his band "Headhunters" in 1974 and did high-quality live. And, it is thought that the topic concerning making Solo Album for him lifted around him. I thought the first time he makes Album only with musical instruments of the keyboard perhaps this Album. A Japanese staff was in the place in the studio where this album was recorded. The Japanese said that the time that had been spent to record the album was four hours. In a word, Herbie made this Solo album in only four hours. I might feel the work in rough a little. However, Herbie performed high-quality music in the limited time. Or, he might unite the spirits for that time and concentrate. His representative's tune is collected to this album. It might be a familiar, for he deep tune. However, he challenged this work feeling all the environments, air, and feelings by a quite new sensibility.
I think that he should perform of "Maiden Voyage" announced in the age of Blue Note. A quiet explosion stimulates listener's sensibility. Continuing "Dolphin Dance" is one of the tunes of his representative. This performance is dedicated to Duke E that died two months before this album is made. And, he switches to the Electric keyboard. "Nobu" is a tune presented to his best friend. It finishes it up very fantastically and rhythmically by making good use of Fender Rhodes. The impression of the tune recalls his directionality before "Headhunters" only a little. And, this tune is announced for the first time as for tune "Cantaloupe Island" of the representative of Herbie for "Us3" to make known to the world at the end and to reconfirm at the time of Blue Note. The method of supplementing the bass with the keyboard might be his patent at this time.
The recording is done in Japan on July 29, 1974. His fan can be concentrated on the performance only of his keyboard. A new discovery might be able to be found to his knowledge and sensibility again by listening to this work.
