3 stars TANGERINE DREAM recorded this small EP for the german TV series Tatort during its formation with Johannes Schmoelling, one of the most prolific period from the band, especially for soundtracks.

The opener, "Das Mädchen Auf Der Treppe", is a remix of "White Eagle". In comparison to the original track, rythmics are added and sounds modeling the melody differ a little. Yet, I still prefer the album song. "Flock" and "Speed" are now remixed on the Antique Dreams compilation under the names "Flock of Bluebirds" and "Speed Dragon". These are fast, energic, action sequenced tracks, both ending with dreamy passages. "Katja" is thus the only novelty here. It is a quite relaxing track with a smooth melody, rather in contrast to the studio material of the band at this moment.

In conclusion, "Die Melodie Aus Dem Gleichnamigen" is an enjoyable EP. Only for fans of TD with Schmoelling.

3 stars This release - most conveniently available these days as bonus tracks on the Pilots of Purple Twilight boxed set - finds Tangerine Dream offering some of their soundtrack magic for an episode of Tatort, the long-running German crime show. The title track is a variation on a segment of White Eagle from the album of a same name, but is dramatic enough in its own right; the remaining tracks were new to this release. They're fairly generic examples of Tangerine Dream's 1980s atmospheric music, but fairly competent ones. I wouldn't say it's worth breaking the bank to track down a copy of the single itself, but the inclusion of these tracks certainly sweetens the deal on that boxed set, so if you were thinking of checking that out anyway don't overlook these.
